Last month, Jaguar Land Rover formed a multi-year partnership with NVIDIA, the leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and computing. Together, the companies’ software developers will create the world’s most advanced autonomous driving systems and services.
Who’s NVIDIA?
Many of you may know NVIDIA as the creator of computer graphics chips used in advanced video games. Well, they are. But they’ve also become a leader in computer vision, a field of AI that enables computers and systems to derive meaningful information from digital images, videos and other visual inputs — and take actions or make recommendations based on that information. Needless to say, computer vision is a key component in the development of self-driving or autonomous vehicles—and NVIDIA is the giant in this market.
Reimagining Modern Luxury by Design
As part of its Reimagine strategy, whose goal is to create a new benchmark in environmental, societal and community impact for a luxury business, from 2025 Jaguar and Land Rover will develop all its vehicles on the NVIDA software platform, delivering an array of safety, automated driving, parking and driver assistance systems. Inside the vehicle, the system will deliver AI features including driver and occupant monitoring as well as advanced visualization of the vehicle’s environment.
Jaguar Land Rover will also use its in-house developed data centre solutions with NVIDIA software. Jaguar Land Rover’s software-defined features and its end-to-end verification and validation architecture will enable the delivery of innovative assisted and automated driving services throughout the life of the vehicle via over-the-air software updates.
